#6: Mistaken or Unseen?
Mistaken or unseen? I was standing in the produce aisle of the grocery store typing a shopping list on my phone dressed in a chic vintage cream wool coat and some of my other favorite fall pieces. Then a lady came up to me and politely asked me whether there was a scale available for weighing vegetables. I looked at her puzzled and she looked at me confused as to why I would look at her that way. I told her that I didn't know because I didn't work there.
And then she saw me.
Of course, she apologized and probably felt foolish. She seemed the type to even be surprised at herself. That she turned out to be one of those people. And of course, that was not nearly my first of such an interaction.
She was mistaken because I was unseen. We clearly see that which we know.
I may always be the 'other' in this land, but I am here nonetheless. I'm not going anywhere, so you should get to know me so that you will no longer be blind.
